Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What does 822 Weddings mean?
A. Eight Twenty Two (or August 22nd) was the date that we got married! Our own wedding day was a big inspiration for us in starting 822 Weddings,
Q. How long have you been shooting weddings?
A. We've been shooting weddings for 5 years, as well as photo and video worldwide professionally for over 15 years combined.
Q. Do I have to get video and photography? What if I just want one or the other?
A. As much as we love working together, we know that everyone’s needs are different. We work regularly with other photographers/cinematographers in the industry, so don't worry, you won't hurt our feelings if you only want one of us.
Q. Can we meet you before we send a retainer or sign a contract?
A. Absolutely! Selecting the right people to be with you on your wedding day is very important, and it’s hard to really get to know one another through email and phone conversations. Our meetings are free of charge, too, no matter how many times you want to get together. We'd love to meet with you over some coffee/tea. We're also happy to Skype!
Q. How do we book with you?
A. In order to reserve your wedding day with us, we require a signed contract and 50% of your package total.
Q. What does it mean to get ‘the reproduction rights’ to our pictures?
A. Included in your photography package is digital download of high resolution images along with the reproduction rights to all of your wedding photos. This means that once you download the photos, you’re free to print and share any and all of your pictures!
Q. If we don't want an engagement session, will the price of our package be reduced?
A. Unfortunately, no. We include engagement sessions in our packages for free because we believe that this time spent together is beneficial for you. Not only will you come away with a beautiful collection of photos, you'll get to know us and how we work (and vice versa!)
Q. Do you offer albums, prints, online galleries, etc?
A. Definitely. Photographs are made to be printed. We proudly offer some of the highest quality, fully customizable photo albums on the market. You can find more information on our "Signature Albums"
here, and information on our "Fine Art Albums" here. We also offer professional archival prints, online galleries, personalized slideshows, and more. Our a la carte items vary in price, please contact us for more information.
Q. Will you travel for destination weddings?
A. Indeed! We shoot weddings locally (Vermont and New England) but we love working in new and different places. Please contact us with some details about your wedding and we’ll happily work up a travel estimate.
Q. How far in advance should we book our photography/video?
A. We start booking about a year out for the busiest months (May thru October), but our schedule really starts to fill up through the winter months.
Q. What kind of equipment do you use?
A. We use Canon professional equipment for both photography and video. We’ll also use professional audio equipment during your ceremony to record your vows.
Q. How long does it take for us to receive our photos after the wedding?
A. During the busiest season (May thru October), please allow 4-8 weeks to receive your images. We almost always put up a photography sneak peek on our blog a couple of weeks after a wedding, so you can get a taste of what’s to come!
Q. When should we expect to see the first draft of our wedding movie?
A. During our busy season, you can expect your wedding films delivered online within 90 days after your wedding.
Q. What if I want to make changes to my wedding movie?
A. All wedding video packages include 2 hours of edit-time for requested changes. When you receive your First Draft, you can watch the movie and get back to us with a list of changes you’d like. If our editing time goes beyond 2 hours, we charge an hourly rate. However, we’ve never had to exceed the included editing time.
Q. One photographer / videographer or two?
A. Typically, we shoot alone. The benefit of having both photography and videography at your wedding means we’ve got you covered. However, if your budget allows for multiple photographers and/or videographers, we have talented professionals we work with. For photography, we recommend considering two photographers if you plan on having more than 150 guests.
Q. Can I get the raw video footage from my wedding?
For the following reasons, we do not offer raw video footage:
1) Raw footage looks bad. We film in what's called a flat or neutral picture profile, which allows us to attain better dynamic range in our exposures. However, it looks quite unflattering straight out of camera (desaturated colors, low contrast) and requires a tedious process of color correction and grading. This is all part of the final stage of our films, giving them a beautifully polished and finished aesthetic. To sit down and watch your footage prior to this process would be a poor and disappointing representation of your wedding. This is the same reason most professional photographers don't give you unedited images.
2) Raw footage has poor audio. While the type of cameras used for filming weddings (Canon DSLR cameras) allow us to capture exceptional image, they unfortunately capture really poor audio. For this reason we record our audio on separate devices. It guarantees that the audio from ceremonies and speeches is high quality, but it also means we have to sync audio up with video in post, and level all the volumes. This is another very tedious but necessary process that happens during the editing of a film. A speech without audio isn't very enjoyable to watch.3) We specialize in creative films. And that's why couples hire us :)
Q. Can’t my friend film my wedding?
A. Sure. But unless your friend is an experienced wedding cinematographer, we can guarentee it won’t be the quality you’re looking for.
Q. What is a first look, and should we do one?
A. The first look is when a couple chooses to see each other before the wedding ceremony in a more private setting, allowing us to capture the intimacy of them seeing one another for the first time on their wedding day. We absolutely love first looks and recommend that every couple considers them. There are so many benefits: for one, you’ll get some breathtaking imagery. If you have a tight schedule on your wedding day, or will have an evening ceremony, having first look allows for us to use natural lighting (always preferred!), and means that we’ll have more time to work together. This ensures that you get the photos or video that you want, without having to rush. Plus, allowing the extra time before your ceremony for a first look means you can get straight to the party once you say “I DO!” We understand that the first look is not for every couple, but it is definitely worth making an educated decision about.
Q. Do you have insurance?
A. Yes! We carry 1 million dollars in liability coverage. If your venue requires proof, we're happy to provide a certificate.
